Celebrating San Francisco’s First Spanish B.A. Pathway for Family Child Care Providers

We’re proud to celebrate the successful launch and completion of the first semester of our Family Child Care (FCC) Spanish B.A. Pathway cohort.

In partnership with Felton Institute’s ECE REACH and with support from the San Francisco Department of Early Childhood (DEC) Workforce Pathways Initiative, this cohort reflects what’s possible when higher education is built with community voice, cultural affirmation, and real wraparound support.

This pathway emerged from clear demand from FCC providers and our collaboration with the Hispanic Providers Network. Today, 27 FCC owner-operators are continuing their journey toward a B.A. in Early Childhood Studies, while also receiving business supports through Felton Institute. It’s the first program of its kind in San Francisco, designed with and for FCC leaders.

"Thanks to that constant effort, I was able to open a new chapter in my life: enrolling at EDvance College, something that was a dream for me. I never imagined that, after so many challenges, I would be able to continue my studies in another country. Studying here has given me a new perspective on early childhood education and has shown me that learning has no age or limits. This opportunity opens doors for me to continue preparing myself and to move forward toward my goal of earning a bachelor’s degree." - Olga Romero Nájera

Students receive comprehensive academic and programmatic support in Spanish, alongside:

  • Community pláticas that elevate provider voice and shape the program

  • Coaching and workshops aligned to professional and business goals

  • Guidance on permits, compliance, and small business sustainability

  • Leadership development and mentorship from experienced FCC leaders

  • Access to workforce resources and milestone-based stipends

This cohort represents EDvance’s commitment to language access, equity, and community-rooted workforce preparation. We’re honored to walk alongside these FCC leaders as they strengthen their practice, their businesses, and their impact across San Francisco.
